Where do I go now?

So far, all I can say, is what a flippin’ year. Did not expect 2016 to start like it has, that’s for damn sure. Life has such a strange way of bumping you back down to square one, just when you think things are starting to go smoothly. And the number of people last week’s event bumped back to square one is quite incredible.

It sure was tough. Well, it still is tough. Lots of questions. Lots of reflection. And lots of f*cking tears. It’s a funny old game, isn’t it?

The only upside? I got to catch up with so many old friends, who, because of the one person we were all blessed to know, will remain friends for life. We were in it together, and by the time we left each other, another little family had been created through this shared experience. That’s the one thing we can hold on to, and be grateful for in light of this tragedy.

Also, the amount of people who read my post and reached out to offer condolences through their stories and generous words of support was humbling as anything. We truly do have the best community in the world here, and I’ll be forever grateful for that.

It feels weird. Weird to get back in to the hustle. Really odd. When I was dropped at the airport, and hugged me goodbye, it all kind of sunk in. The reality. The finality. The fact that now, I actually do have to go on. Even though life as I understand it has changed, as I mentioned in my video, I think the only thing we can do, the only thing that can bring us comfort, is to carry on in a manner that would make the person you loved proud. And in this instance, that means I have to live life to the absolute full, push it to the limits, say a big fat yes to life, in all its abundance.

Ironic, coincidence, fate then perhaps, that as you read this, I will be making my friend proud.. Because I’ll be on a plane bound for Japan.

JAPAN! Can you believe it?! I’ve been fizzing to tell you about this trip for a long time! I know that Japan doesn’t seem like a logical place to go when you are hustling (*cough*, EXPENSIVE), however the trip was booked way back when I was in a secure job.. Way back when I had paid leave.. Way back when I was getting income on the reg.

So.. I mean, even though I’m not really in a position to fund an expensive international trip.. Because it’s all booked and ready to go.. It’d be a bit rude slash crazy not to.

I figure that just as hard work is essential to the hustle, so is gaining fresh perspective, immersing yourself in a different culture, gaining insight in to an alternate way of life, enjoying new experiences, getting out of your comfort zone.. And yes, trying to have the most incredible time while on an extremely strict budget!

I’m definitely going to come back with at least one of three things, which will give you some clues as to what I’ll be getting up to.. 1) A new kimono. 2) Mickey Mouse ears. 3) A Canadian. Make sure you’re following @MondayHustle on Instagram and Facebook to keep in the loop!

I’m also going to treat it like a work trip, and see what kind of things I can achieve while I’m over there.. Hell, when you’re a hustler, everything you do has hustle potential! I’ll be spreading the word about the blog, daring myself to talk big without feeling tall poppy, trying to network and meet ridiculously  interesting people.. “Lucy O’Connor Brings the Hustle to Japan” – got a bloody good ring to it, that! Any TV networks want me to present a series while I’m over there?

As well as updating you on Instagram and Facebook, I’ll do my best to throw a video together for next week’s post. Now, don’t judge me, but I might have to invest in a selfie stick in order to achieve this video footage.. I honestly never thought there’d be a day I’d say that. When selfie sticks became a ‘thing’ I was like LOL, no never, oh em gee, I’d rather get a tattoo of a selfie stick than an actual selfie stick! But.. You have to admit.. It would be kind of handy. They’re are about $4 these days, and right now, even the thought of investing $4 hurts me a little bit.. I hope 2 Minute Noodles are on special when I get back.. Whatever. Experience, not money, equals happiness, right? Insofar as possible, I’ll endeavor to create an accurate depiction of what I’ve been up to – however, I may not video everything.. I hear you get naked in the Onsens, and there are some things you just can’t unsee…

Make sure you keep the NZ hustle real for the next couple of weeks in my absence. I can’t wait to get back and share all the things I learn on this trip with you! But, if you’ll excuse me, I’d better get back to the ‘Miranda’ binge I’m currently indulging in on the plane..

I hope one thing remains consistent this year.. That good thing keep happening on Mondays!

If you have any ideas for how I can make a positive Monday Hustle impact in Japan, totes let me know!! Comment below, email lucy@mondayhustle.com, or find me on Facebook and Instagram!

One last thought in light of last week.

We are truly here to live, not just exist. Our time is precious. Our time is limited.

So what are we waiting for? Let’s go get it, hustler.

    1. Thanks Melissa!! It’s been great so far – very limited internet access, which is both a good and a bad thing! Japan is ridiculously amazing – I’d definitely recommend visiting – it is truly beautiful. xx
